Malagasy proverbs: aleo very tsikalakalam-bola, toy izay very tsikalakalam-pihavanana

Aleo very tsikalakalam-bola toy izay very tsikalakalam-pihavanana.

Better to lose a little money than a little friendship.

Mieux vaut perdre une certaine somme d'argent plutôt que de perdre une relation d'amitié

The word "tsikalakàlana" means a stool in Malagasy. So I think when people borrow it and then lose it, since it has cost a little sum of money, it means that the owner has lost a little money. So instead of breaking a friendship because of the loss, and asking for a repayment, it is better to let it be lost for good.

The same text without the duplication:

*These are words in the reduplicated form mostly.

- nitsangana: to stand up: nitsangatsangana: to roam

- manao: to do something, to make love, so as to avoid the misunderstanding the duplicated form is used to mean "to do stupid things": "manaonao foana" (and not manao foana: to make love often*

- miheritreritra: to think

- kokoa: an adverb of comparison

free translation:

Yesterday, we went out, for a walk. Before we started out, we first fried some kind of pancakes, drank some fruit juice, ate some appetizers. Then we went to look at some storefronts, and bought something at the market. The prices were high, so it is not advisable to buy anything or to do shopping often, but you must think over the purchase before paying, because once you have bought an item it is not allowed to exchange it, for example if you want something a bit smaller or bigger, anyway you could not come back often if it is not for buying.

It is only starting from three thousand ariary that you can have a decent thing.

People are glad and they smile when they have made their shopping. However there are people who dare to buy anything at any price without sparing money, but in that case they have to go everywhere to borrow money.
